The tone of the poem is more of _______.a. admiration b. criticism c. inspirational d. pride

Rabbi Ben Ezra by: Robert Browning

The tone of this poem is more of inspirational.

Definition:

Tone refers to the overall appeal of a piece of writing, place, or situation. It is often conveyed through the choice of words, or the standpoint of the author on a particular subject. Each piece of literature contains a central theme or subject matter. It is the manner in which the author approaches the theme or subject. Tone can be cheerful, comic, formal, informal, sad, sarcastic, serious, or it may be any other prevailing attitude.

Function of Tone:

  • it decides how the readers appreciate a literary piece and what should they feel while reading that piece.
  • it stimulates the readers to be engage with the piece comically, distressingly, seriously, or spectacularly.
  • it gives life and shape to a piece of literature since it establishes a mood.
  • it grants voice to characters and tosses light on the natures and personalities of the characters for the readers to better understand them.

Explanation:

The tone of the poem is more of inspirational because it encourages the reader to welcome rebuffs with courage. The author says that the rough times would just come and go and we need to remain standing despite of the pains that we have experienced from those rough times. He also encouraged the readers to strive and never hold any grudge from the pang since it will leave us a truly important lesson.

Reaction:

I would like to agree with the author that every rebuff of our lives should be faced as if nothing rough has ever happened. Even if a single joy might mean double or triple pain. We should strive to overcome the pain and increase our tolerance towards it. We should not be discouraged if things do not go as smooth as we expect them to be. We should remember that life is not only about ups and smooths; it also has downs and roughs.
