The gravitational force between two objects is 2400 N. What will be the gravitational force between the objects if the mass of one object is doubled?

600 N
1200 N
4800 N
9600 N

ANSWER:

4800 N

GIVEN:

F = 2400 N = 2400 kgm/s/s

g = 10 m/s/s

m = ? kg

1ST SOLUTION:

Lets first find the mass using this formula F = mg.

F = mg

2400 N = (m)(10 m/s/s)

2400 kgm/s/s = (m)(10 m/s/s)

(2400 kgm/s/s) / (10 m/s/s) = m

240 kg = m

Since mass should be doubled, then...

240 kg x 2 = 480 kg

We were looking for the new Force. We. then, use the new mass for the new Force.

F = mg

where:

F = ?

m = 480 kg

g = 10 m/s/s

2ND SOLUTION:

F = mg

F = (480 kg)(10 m/s/s)

F = 4800 kgm/s/s

F = 4800 N.
